Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Therapy with Phil Pool
I am a fully qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist based in central Brighton.
I offer sessions to help with many of life’s challenges, including –
- boost your mood
- reduce anxiety
- boost self-esteem
- concerns about your appearance
- reduce and remove fears and phobias
- relieve chronic or persistent pain
- unlock complex PTSD
- shift unwanted habits and obsessive behaviours (OCD)
- remove performance blocks
I use a Solution Focused Hypnotherapy approach and draw in experience from Nuero-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and other counselling skills.
I have an enhanced DBS check and work with adults in Brighton and online. I have survived and flourished as a neuro-divergent person and I am particularly welcoming of other neuro-divergent people. My pronouns are they/them and I am actively LGBT+ friendly.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy: Achieve Positive Change Quickly
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines the power of hypnosis with solution-focused therapy to help you make significant, positive changes in your life. Hypnosis, also known as “trance,” is a natural, relaxing state induced through guided relaxation. In this relaxed state, your critical mind quietens, allowing you to focus on positive thoughts and suggestions, unlocking your own inner solutions and facilitating change in unwanted behaviours and thoughts.
Effective and Efficient Therapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies, enabling people to achieve meaningful change in a relatively short time. Many people seeking support have already explored other therapies or possess a deep understanding of their issues, yet still feel “stuck” or unable to make desired changes. They seek practical, lasting solutions to improve happiness, confidence, and life satisfaction.
Focus on Solutions, Shift Problems
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy emphasises what you want to achieve (the solution) rather than dwelling on your difficulties (the problem). While acknowledging that life’s challenges impact everyone differently, this approach recognises that solutions are equally diverse – your solution will be your solution.
Unlocking Your Inner Resources
Like other solution-focused approaches, this therapy operates on the principle that we all possess all the necessary inner resources for positive change. Often, these solutions are not immediately apparent. Through collaborative work, you will identify, explore, and implement these resources, step by step.
Rapid Results
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is often a quicker process than other therapies. Following a free initial consultation, clients typically attend 8 to 12 sessions. For conditions like OCD and PTSD, more sessions are usually needed. For most specific phobias, an initial consultation and 3 sessions may be all you need.
Sometimes we may all feel like we keep getting caught in the rain…

A key part of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is understanding where you are now and where you want to be. In today’s society, many experience anxiety that limits their potential. My practice supports a calmer, clearer state of mind, a foundation for positive change.
Is Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy for Everyone? While Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can benefit most people, to work well it requires a willingness to embrace change. Often, after a few sessions, as anxiety reduces, clients realise change is not only possible but already underway. This positive momentum empowers further progress towards their desired future
How Does It Work?
We’ll have a short (5-10 mins) discussion on the phone or via email, and then an initial consultation (free of charge) which lasts about 45-60 mins. During the initial consultation, I will ask you about your areas of concern, and what you would like to be different. I will explain in more detail how I can work with you. If we are both happy that this is the right approach for you, we will meet about once a week for an hour for as many weeks as needed – usually between 8 and 12, or 4 for a specific phobia.
Does it always work? Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be very successful, but nothing works all of the time in quite the way we expect. Sometimes clients come intending to “fix” one thing and find that, actually, what they want to do is somewhat different. Sometimes, they may know, or conclude, that a situation is unlikely to change and, instead of struggling against it, they find that they can live better with that reality.

More about Me
Phil Pool BSc (Hons), DSFH, HPD, AfSFH, MNCH – I am a clinical hypnotherapist and I love to be part of people getting what they want out of life. I believe that we all have the solutions we need within us, we just need to find the key, to practice and to observe and to believe in ourselves.
I love life in Brighton, the sea, the nightlife, the vibrancy and the people.
I’ve worked in equality and diversity issues, especially with disability, for many years. In recent years, I have trained in NLP, counselling skills and more recently in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

I am dyslexic and have been assessed as having ADHD (more about neuro diversity). I have two wonderful, pretty much adult, children. My personal interests include photography and (sorry I will try not to be boring about it) year-round sea swimming. Having had three spine and other operations, I live with permanent nerve damage and I have, largely, found ways to live better with pain.
A long time ago I graduated with a degree in sociology and economics, with a focus on equality issues. Over the years I have also trained as practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming.

Here’s me looking a bit goofy, receiving my Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy from one of my wonderful tutors, Brian Noon.
Qualifications and Professional Bodies
I trained with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training and through them achieved my Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I have attained a Hypnotherapy In Practice Diploma (HPD) from the National Council for Hypnotherapy, awarded by the National Council for Further Education.
I am a member of the of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
